Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS CANNIBUS AND KETAMINE ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY?
This innovative therapy uses expressive medicines such as ketamine and cannabis in conjunction with somatic-based, trauma work. These medicines allow us access into the unconscious/subconscious mind to gain a deeper understanding of the issues going on in our lives and allows us to explore the root causes/ underlying causes of these issues. This allows us to have a symptom resolution focus, rather than a symptom management focus. Using small amounts of these medicines allows oneself to gain access to the pre-frontal cortex. which is the thinking/logical mind now, as well as access to the subconscious/unconscious. These states of mind have the best opportunity for healing and growth when a well-established, therapeutic relationship is in placed, based in the foundations of safety and trust.
HOW DOES IT WORK AND WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
The process begins with a 30 minute consultation, in which the client will describe the issues going on in his or her life. Gabe will answer any questions and concerns and will explain the arc of this form of therapy,
DO I HAVE TO HAVE HAD PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WITH THERAPY TO DO THIS KIND OF WORK?
No, you do not. Gabe has had many clients with or without previous therapy experience.
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS/START FEELING BETTER?
This therapy is individualized. Therefore, a specific timetable of when a client feels better is difficult to predict. Typically, to gain a detailed understanding of the current issue(s) and symptoms, as well as how our nervous system/bodies are effected by certain stimulus while building healthy therapeutic relationship usually will take around two to three months of weekly sessions.
WHAT IS THE COST OF EACH SESSION?
Gabe offers a 30 minute free consultation to see if this work is a good fit for you. Following the consultation, a single psychotherapy session is set at a rate of $150 per hour, while a two hour medicine-assisted session is $250.
DO YOU TAKE INSURNACE?
Unfortunately I do not directly take insurance. However, I can provide you with a super bill which can be turned over to your insurance company for re-imbursement. In addition, Gabe accepts HSA cards as payment.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT THROUGHOUT THIS PROCESS?
You will begin with an intake session. The intake session details various aspects of your life and your goals. Following the intake, you and your therapist will go through a series of 'prep' sessions to see how your nervous system, body and mind react when certain memories or life events are discussed. In addition, you will begin building a sense of safety and trust with your therapist. After the 'prep' sessions, and both the client and therapist believe that medicine is the right path forward, you will transition into weekly, two hour medicine-assisted therapy sessions.
HOW DO I OBTAIN KETAMINE FOR THE MEDICINE-ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY AND WHAT IS THE COST?
If you and your therapist have decided that ketamine-assisted psychotherapy is right for you, you will be referred you to a local prescriber(s). This does require a visit and evaluation with a psychiatrist. If it is determined by all parties that ketamine assisted therapy is a good fit, they will prescribe the medication. The cost of the visit is $200 and the ketamine prescription is roughly $50. These prices are estimates provided by a third party and are subject to change.
